Happy New Year readers!!

So the old is out and here comes the new. Some already know what to do with the new and some are still choosing to be spectators waiting on the side lines and not ready to play. They’ve been hurt in the past so they tell themselves it’s not worth it to expect anything from the new. Life is always the same,things don’t change and Greatness is meant for a selected few, these are some of the lies people have come to believe.

As we journey into the new year I would have myself believe this year is not a sequel to last year and I always drum it into myself “yesterday ended last night”. So don’t take the baggage of yesterday or last year with yourself. Quit lying to yourself that all there is for your life is all you already see.

People always say when you don’t expect nothing you don’t get disappointed…. But We can’t buy that. Not having an expectation tells me that one is settling for an ordinary life. A life void of passion and pursuit. A life where you carry on with the same way of life and never challenge yourself to be more or do more in your generation.

Why should you have an EXPECTATION

1. Expectation builds a desire in you and gives you something to look forward to;
An intense anticipation itself transforms possibility into reality; our desires being often but precursors of the things which we are capable of performing~Samuel Smiles
Your expectation for good and better creates in you a desire and a picture to look forward to. When you have an expectation for something good you believe that change is possible and you believe you are capable of birthing that change. You believe that your life and what you see now is not all there is, you believe there is more you can achieve on your job, in your business, for your family and above all for yourself. Because you have an expectation of something more and something better for your life your desire for change heightens and you are ready to work for your change, speak for your change, pray for your change and even give for change. Not having an expectation is simply saying to yourself you have no desire for better, nothing to look forward to, you have accepted the status quo and you don’t think there’s much that you can do any longer.. You can’t let that be you this year.

2. It creates a hunger for achievement in you…
When you expect great things and you are so consumed with passion for the picture of the better life you see, you have the desire to want to do more and give nothing short of your best. Having an expectation creates in you an hunger for pursuit. Because you have an expectation for something to work in your favour you will get up and be an active participant instead of sitting round waiting for a by and by and some magic wand to change the course of your life. And like Henry Thoreau put it “you learn to reawaken and keep yourself awake, not by mechanical aid but by an infinite expectation of the dawn”.

3. For better assessment of your progress…
When you have an expectation for your year you are able to assess if what you are doing in this moment is moving you in the direction of your bigger picture. For instance if you have an expectation for a better wage at the end of each month you will know where to focus your energy either to look for a higher paying job, further your education or get a business alongside your current employment. But when you don’t have an expectation you are not hoping for anything so you might not know if you are stuck or you are moving in a direction that will serve your greater purpose.

Give yourself a chance to grow and change this year. Raise your expectation and be realistic with your goals. Don’t build a monument around past disappointment. Don’t let yesterday’s disappointment be your excuse to stay stuck in neutral choosing to walk life sidelines when you have all it takes to be an active participant in the game of life. Dig your heels in, expect something big to happen in your life. If you don’t expect nothing you get nothing. Raise your expectation this year and expect the best of yourself and then do what is necessary to make it a reality.

Stay positive and expect big of yourself and for yourself in 2014.

We are more than a CONQUEROR.
